The Verplanck Fire Department is always looking for New Active Firefighters and EMS Members

Firefighters can join starting at the age of 16 and will be able to ride both Fire & EMS Calls

EMS Only Members can Join starting at age 18 and must be willing to take a New York State Basic EMT Course 

Any Community Member who is not affiliated with another agency can also Join 1 of our 4 classes of membership to also serve our Community.

Active FIRE - Where we would sponsor you to take your NYS Firefighter Courses which are held at the Training Center in Valhalla and/or Katonah FD. These courses can run for multiple nights for approx. 4-6 months. During some periods Day time course are also offered.

Active EMS - Where we would sponsor you to take your NYS Emergency Medical Technician Course which is a 6 month course a few nights a week held in multiple areas in the county such as Cortlandt VAC, Phelps Hospital, Westchester Community College (Also offer Day Time and Weekend Courses) and many other locations. Once completed your Basic Course, we provide a NYS Re-Cert Program for you to enroll in to, where you are able to take 2 hour courses through-out a 3 year period for a total of 72 hours and re-cert your EMT Card without having to go back to EMT School Refreshers, These course are offered in house, online and many facilities throughout the county.  

Active Fire/EMS - If you are interested in service your community as both an Active Firefighter and an Active EMT we will sponsor both of your courses as listed in the above categories.
 
Associate -  Community Members who are over the age of 55 or for medical reasons that would not allow them to be an active member can join as an Associate Member, Members affiliated with another Fire Department and are unable to be active in 2 fire departments as Active Firefighters can also join Associate. Any person who resides outside the Fire District boundaries are able to join Associate regardless of their age or medical status. Associate Members can attend Company Event and Parades and are NOT permitted on any Fire Alarms.
