The Verplanck Fire Department is a volunteer fire department located in Westchester County, NY. The department protects the hamlet of Verplanck within the Town of Cortlandt. The Verplanck Fire District also includes several commercial sites including the Indian Point Energy Center located in the neighboring Village of Buchanan.
The Department answers approximately 265 alarms per year consisting of fire alarms, ambulance calls, auto accidents, boating incidents on the Hudson River, and other emergencies. We provide mutual aid to our neighboring departments of Montrose, Buchanan, Montrose VAFD, Croton, as well as the City of Peekskill.

**Are you an Active Fireman affiliated with another Fire Department and are currently an Active NYS EMT? - Verplanck is now accepting Application forACTIVE EMS for those members who would like to assist our Community and cover Ambulance Calls but were unable to in the past due to being part of another Fire Department. If you are not already enrolled in a Re-Cert Program - you would be Enrolled under Verplanck which would allow you to Re-Cert every 3 years by conducting NYS CME Classes**
Any Community Member who is not affiliated with another agency can also Join 1 of our 4 classes of membership to also serve our Community.
Active FIRE - Where we would sponsor you to take your NYS Firefighter Courses which are held at the Training Center in Valhalla and/or Katonah FD. These course can run for multiple nights for approx 4-6 months. During some periods Day time course are also offered.
Active EMS - Where we would sponsor you to take your NYS Emergency Medical Technician Course which is a 6 month course a few nights a week held in multiple areas in the county such as Cortlandt VAC, Phelps Hospital, Westchester Community College (Also offer Day Time and Weekend Courses) and many other locations. Once completed your Basic Course, we provide a NYS Re-Cert Program for you to enroll in to, where you are able to take 1 hours courses through-out a 3 year period for a total of 72 hours and re-cert your EMT Card with out having to go back to EMT School Refreshers, These course are offered in house, online and many facility through out the county.
Active Fire/EMS - If you are interested in service your community as both an Active Firefighter and an Active EMT we will sponsor both of your courses as listed in the above categories. Associate - Community Members who are over the age of 55 or for medical reasons that would not allow them to be an active member can join as an Associate Member, Members affiliated with another Fire Department and are unable to be active in 2 fire departments as Active Firefighters can also join Associate. Any person who resides outside the Fire District boundaries are able to join Associate regardless of their age or medical status. Associate Members can attend Company Event and Parades and are NOT permitted on any Fire Alarms.

Attention Members: Beside the 2019 Parade Season sign up which has it's own tab. There has been a new tab located under "More" "Members Section" called STANDBY/Training Coverage, This will allow members to sign up for events that will arise throughout the year, such as Standby Request for Concert Series, Fireworks, Feast Event's, Department Training's and other event through the year. All that is needed is your name and position you wish to cover and it will email the officers of your request. If you have any issues please contact an officer.
--It is Election Time for 2020-- Nomination Committee was formed on 09/12/19 for the 2020 Slate of Officers: Nomination Committee Members: Chris Nieminski (Chair) Morgan Davis Amanda Wessells All Positions are open See a Committee member to enter you name prior to the next company meeting. Nominations are also open on the floor at the October Company Meeting and will close at the end of November Company Meeting. If there is a runoff for any positions the General Election will be held December 10th 7pm-9pm at HQ. Elections are open only to Department Members. ------------------------------------ District Commissioners Election will be held on December 10, 2019 at the Little Red School House from 6:00pm - 9:00pm Open Election to all Community Members. -------------------------------------- Town of Cortlandt 5K Race is October 26th at 8am at the Riverfront - Verplanck will have Crews assisting the Race. ------------------------------------ Verplanck Halloween Parade from Little Red School House to Fire house is October 26th Line up 130pm/Start 2pm with Refreshments to Follow
DID YOU KNOW? When you see any emergency vehicle (Police, Fire, Ambulance,Tow Trucks) on the side of the road with their Emergency Flashers on you need to SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER! If you are not able to move over to a new lane you MUSTreduce your speed and watch for instruction of personnel who may be directing traffic and proceed pass the emergency scene safely and slowly.
DID YOU KNOW? When you see an approaching Blue Flashing Light in your rear-view mirror it is a Volunteer Fireman or EMT responding to either a Fire or Ambulance Call. These personnel need to get to the firehouse or to the scene as quickly as possible to render the service needed in a timely fashion. PLEASE BE COURTEOUS and PULL OVER, STOP and LET THEM PASS. Someone is depending on their help and sometimes seconds really do count.

Firefighters can join starting at the age of 16 and will be able to ride both Fire & EMS Calls
EMS Only Members can Join starting at age 18 and must be willing to take a New York State Basic EMT Course
